Northern Regional Lands Commission innaugurated


The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources Mr. John Peter Amewu has charged the new officers of the northern regional lands commission to avoid the enticement of being influenced by hawkers and chasing for lands for themselves, family and friends.

The Minister who was speaking during the inauguration of the northern regional lands commission held today, 8th August, 2017 at the northern regional coordinating council, Tamale, cautioned the members of the commission to be responsible and trustworthy members.

He explained that, for the lands commission in the northern region and Ghana as a whole to thrive on their mandate and achieve their goals, past inaccuracies and “ill behaviors” of some past members of the commission should not be repeated.

“I enjoin you to avoid the temptation of being influenced peddlers and chasing lands for yourselves, friends and family” Mr. Amawu said

Mr. Peter Amewu however urged the regional commission to provide leadership, guidance and implementation of national policies on lands, saying their varied skills and expertise are necessary for the progress of the regional lands commission.

Meanwhile the sector minister made known that land is the biggest contributor to all factor contributions to gross domestic product (GDP) in Ghana, thus in order for President Akuffo Addo to achieve his plans, lands in the country must be protected and judiciously used.

The northern regional minister, Salifu Saaed who was the chairman of the occasion, said the northern region in recent times has witnessed a number of land disputes and these disputes were as a result of most land owners not knowing the exact land demarcation of their boundaries and therefore make grants into the land of their neighbors. This, the minister said to end these disputes, the lands commission in the region, must endeavor to educate the chiefs to perfect title to their lands to ensure peace in the region.
